Housing Now Helps People
Housing Now assisted people being relocated from a skilled nursing facility.  About 10 people were able to move into their own homes.  They needed everything to start living in their new homes.  Housing Now would like to thank Jay Watson for taking initiative to get Housing Now featured in news stories on television and on the radio.  Housing Now would like to thank 21st and R Self Stor for donating storage space for the furniture donations.

News from the Sacramento Housing Alliance (SHA)
Check the Sacramento Housing Alliance web site to see how you can help advocate for affordable housing. SHA was active in advocating for extremely low income housing in local housing elements thanks to a letter writing campaign, providing testimony at meetings and meetings with the elected officials. SHA will continue to advocate for a mixed income ordinance to be city wide in the City of Sacramento not only in new growth areas.  Housing Advocates, please watch the web site for advocacy opportunities or call Housing Now for information.

SHA continues to reach out regionally with the Coalition On Regional Equity (CORE).  This program reaches out to partners in surrounding counties.  CORE advocates for regional development and growth that is equitable and sustainable and promotes public health for lower income communities and communities of color in the greater Sacramento region.  For more information contact info@equitycoalition.org or visit www.equitycoalition.org

Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Funds
Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has released applications for new funding called Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing (HPRP).  Most jurisdictions will qualify for this program.  In the homeless prevention category these funds will provide short term to middle term rental assistance to keep households in their homes.  It can also be used to help with utility costs and other costs.  In the rapid re-housing program people who are experiencing homelessness will be provided with all costs to get them into housing and to keep them housed.  Contact your local housing authority or Department of Human Assistance for details on the program.  The funding begins on October 1st, 2009.  60% of the funds must be spent in 18 months and all of the funds must be used by September 2012.
