About Membership

Housing Now, through the combined efforts of its membership and the Alta California Regional Center (ACRC), seeks affordable and accessible housing in safe and decent neighborhoods for people with developmental disabilities throughout ten counties of Northern California.

Here’s why you should renew or become a new member of Housing Now:

Housing Now continues to assist ACRC in locating community living options for people leaving developmental centers.  Many of these consumers have specialized housing needs.

Housing Now provides education about community living options to consumers, families, SLS and ILS community facilitators, service coordinators, our member agencies and property managers in order to enable our consumers to make informed decisions about living independently.

Housing Now partners with local housing developers that are building new housing for people served by ACRC.  By conducting an extremely important assessment of the housing needs of consumers served by ACRC, new and important ideas in design will serve the needs of our consumers, i.e. assuring there are roll in showers, and accessible laundry facilities.

Housing Now partners with Sacramento Self-Help Housing and maintains a housing database for the areas served by ACRC.

Housing Now maintains relationships with property owners and managers who belong to the Rental Housing Association of the Greater Sacramento Valley in order to be an up-to-date resource for information about accessible rental vacancies, and to help ensure that accessible vacancies are filled by people who will best take advantage of their amenities.  This relationship also fosters a mutual understanding of the housing needs of people with disabilities who live independently.

As the Executive Director of Housing Now, I pledge to continue making new and important connections that produce the results of our mission-on behalf of people in need of housing.  With your support and membership, Housing Now is making a person’s move from a developmental center to living independently in our communities a reality, rather than a possibility.
