Our Mission:
To locate and maintain affordable and accessible housing for persons with developmental disabilities in decent and safe neighborhoods.
Housing Now is a membership organization of property managers, business people, housing advocates, consumer groups, service providers and local developers dedicated to expanding affordable and accessible housing options for persons with developmental disabilities.
What we do:
Housing Now was created through a generous grant from the Department of Developmental Services in October 2002. Housing Now has a contract with Alta California Regional Center to provide the following outcomes:
- Assist in finding community living options for people relocating from Developmental Centers or being deflected from the Developmental Center
- Provide housing resources education to consumers, families, SLS and ILS community facilitators, ACRC Service Coordinators, member agencies and property managers
- Create and maintain a database of affordable housing options and expand those options
Housing Now also provides these services:
- Resource for property managers/owners to find people who need accessible apartments
- Keep database of people who need roommates
- Advocate for inclusion of persons with developmental disabilities and their needs in local jurisdiction’s Housing Elements
- Assist people in solving issues they might have with their local Housing Authority
- Assist people with accessing modification grants
- Assist with Fair Housing Issues
- Independent Living Assistance Program (ILAP)* new program (see Current Events)
